Captain Robert P. Sykes, USAAC - Commander 8th Weather Squadron Detachment. Inspection of Kap Cort Adelaer (19th September 1944) - "Belle Isle" & "Polarbjørn":

19 September 1944. Arrived Cape Adelaer about 1045Z. Sgt. Twombly met us with motor boat and preparations were made for unloading of aviation gas. Plan was to dump it into the straits and haul it ashore with the motor boat. At Skjoldungen, we had used the Polar Bjorn's outboard motor boat, but here we could use the station boat.
Major Robe and I inspected the station, and although we had planned to depart in the late afternoon, the weather closed down and it was decided to remain at Cape Adelaer at least over night. We remained two days. During that time, Major Robe and I participated actively in the general policing program, and I think with beneficial results.
Departed Cape Adelaer at 0700Z, 21 September 1944, but the delay was well worth the inconvenience. Passing along the coast we noted considerable cumulus activity to the East. There had been a cold front passage the night before. We were being helped along by a brisky Northwest wind.
